ELOCUTION & ACCENT SOFTENING
If you want to achieve a clear, confident communication style, softening your native accent to find a more neutral English sound, then this is the course for you.
Let me be clear, I love accents! The way we speak and our native accents are part of who we are, which is a wonderful thing, but sometimes when we communicate with others, having an accent can lead to confusion or misunderstandings. It may be that you feel like your accent is holding you back from achieving your potential- this could be within your career, socially or more generally. Perhaps you're fed up of people missing your key message and asking where you're from? Maybe you feel deflated every time someone asks you to repeat yourself?
Accent softening can not only help you to find a more neutral sound, but also really get to grips with the rhythm and intonation of spoken English. This in turn can increase confidence, authenticity and clarity as a communicator to enable you to reach your communication goals. It is effective for both native English speakers and foreign nationals.
The idea of accent softening is to find the sounds that are holding on to your native accent and move them towards a more neutral English sound. This is achieved through using simple and intuitive techniques, which really enable you to find and embed these new sounds, and with practice, put them into everyday speech.
What you can expect to learn:
Intonation and rhythm of spoken English
A clear and concise communication style
An understanding of the sounds of neutral English speech and how to apply them
How to avoid misunderstandings or confusion
Increased confidence
To hold the attention of your listener
It is worth noting that I am not an English teacher and whilst we can look at grammar and vocabulary as we go along, my main focus is your accent and general communication and so to benefit from this course you must be fluent in English.
